Trump reports capture of five 'most wanted' ISIS leaders

The US and Iraqi intelligence services seized five members of the leadership of the Islamic State as a result of a secret special operation. Four of them were lured out of asylum in Syria to Iraq with the help of a captured phone with a Telegram messenger, writes RBC.

"The five most wanted leaders of the IG are captured!", Wrote the President of the United States, without disclosing details.

The operation to capture them was carried out by the secret services of Iraq and the United States, who managed to lure them into the territory of Iraq from Syria. Iraqi television has named the names of the seized terrorists: Saddam al-Jammel, Mohamed al-Qadir, Ismail al-Eytawi, Omar al-Karbuli and Essam al-Zabbai.

The operation was made possible by the arrest of Ismail al-Eytawi, who also used the pseudonym Abu Zayed al-Iraq. According to ReutersHe was captured by the Turkish secret services in February, after which he was handed over to the Iraqi authorities. Al-Eytawi Agency calls the "closest aide" leader of the IG Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. In the group Eytavi engaged in finance.

Together with the "IG financier" the special services got his phone. With his help, they contacted the other four high-ranking militants. To maintain contact with them, notes Reuters, Eytawi used messenger Telegram. In correspondence with them, the agents managed to mislead the militants and lure them from a refuge in Syria to the territory of Iraq, where they were captured.

Photos with captured militants dressed in prison uniforms were shown on Iraqi state television.

The Iraqi security adviser Hisham al-Hashimi, who revealed the details of the operation, noted that al-Eytawi and al-Jammel had become the most senior functionaries of the IG that had ever been captured alive. Jammel was the "governor" and ruled the territories under IS control east of the Euphrates. The remaining three terrorists, who fell into the hands of the special services, were field commanders of the group.

Eytawi's phone allowed the secret services to access not only the correspondence of one of the leaders of the IG, but also the bank accounts and group communication codes.

Iraqi intelligence chief Abu Ali al-Basri 7 May reported that the leader of IG al-Baghdadi is alive and hiding in Syria, in the province of Deir ez-Zor. Al-Basri noted that this information is being used for the joint operation of the Russian, Syrian and Iranian forces. Prior to this, the death of the leader of the IG was repeatedly reported by the media and official authorities.
