Trump approved the delivery of Ukraine lethal weapons

The Russian Foreign Ministry reacted negatively to this news, saying that the US plans to supply weapons to Ukraine threaten to disrupt the peace process and impede the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin said that the supply of any weapons to Ukraine “encourages the militant wing in Kyiv.”

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that such a decision by the United States could “unleash bloodshed in the Donbass.”

“Moscow’s reaction to possible supplies of lethal weapons to Ukraine is well known. “This will probably once again warm up the already hot heads of nationalists who are striving to again switch to a forceful method of settlement in the Donbass, which is completely futile, and start bloodshed again,” he said.

In turn, US Senator John McCain believes that providing Ukraine with lethal defense weapons does not contradict the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbas.

“Report on President Trump’s decision to provide Ukraine with anti-tank systems Javelins "is another important step in the right direction and sends a strong signal that the United States will stand with its allies and partners as they fight to protect their sovereignty and territorial integrity," McCain said.

He also believes that Ukraine has long had to provide such weapons.

“Providing Ukraine with the capabilities necessary to deter and defend against further Russian aggression will help create the more stable security conditions necessary for the peaceful resolution of this conflict,” the politician believes.

According to "Ukrainian Truth", Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko welcomed the decision of the Trump administration, noting that providing Ukraine with lethal defensive weapons is a “principled and long-awaited decision” and “a worthy response to Russia’s continued occupation of Ukrainian territory.”

“As agreed with President Donald Trump, without unnecessary noise, calmly, Ukraine will receive lethal defensive weapons from the United States. This principled and long-awaited decision of the US administration was confirmed during my conversation yesterday with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson,” Poroshenko noted.

“This is also a transatlantic vaccination against the Russian virus of aggression. ... Such a step in tandem with strengthening sanctions against Russia is a worthy response to the continued occupation of Ukrainian territory, Moscow’s failure to fulfill its obligations and the continuation of pumping Donbass with heavy weapons,” said the President of Ukraine.

He also thanked Trump "for his leadership, the clear position of our American friends and his strong bipartisan support for Ukraine."
