US warned Russia about the possibility of new sanctions

US Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Wednesday warned Russia about the possibility of new sanctions against it from Western countries, if it continues what he described as Russian “aggression” against Ukraine.

Lew spoke to journalists in Kiev at the signing ceremony of the agreement, according to which the administration of President Barack Obama will provide Ukraine with guarantees for a loan of two billion dollars.

These funds should go to finance Ukrainian "social needs".

“We are ready to do more if the need arises,” the American minister said, speaking of the possibility of new sanctions.

“We will continue to work with our allies in order to increase pressure on Russia,” he added.

Lew also stressed that sanctions against Moscow could be eased if it follows the terms of the Minsk agreements on a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine and the withdrawal of Russian fighters and military equipment from this region, writes Voice of America.
