The United States will help resolve the refugee crisis
After meeting with legislators in Congress, US Secretary of State John Kerry said: “We are carefully considering what number of refugees we can accept in connection with the crisis in Syria and Europe. A full-scale verification is underway on this issue. ”
In turn, the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, called on the EU countries to accept thousands of refugees additionally over the next two years, but some countries object to the quota system.
“Europe, in which I want to live, is personified by people who help others,” said Juncker, speaking in the European Parliament. “Europe, in which I don’t want to live,” he continued, “is Europe that refuses those who need help.”
However, the governments of the Czech Republic and Slovakia are still strongly opposed to the quotas necessary, according to Juncker, to cope with the largest migration crisis since World War II.
“I spoke out against quotas, because I do not consider quotas to be a real solution to the migration crisis,” said Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka this week, when the details of the European Commission’s plan became known.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed fears that, along with refugees, terrorists could infiltrate into Europe. Most migrants seek to settle in the most prosperous Western European countries, especially in Germany and Sweden.
“When terrorists are grouped in Syria, how can they be distinguished from other migrants who cross the borders of the European Union without any control?” Said Fico.
In accordance with the plan, the most refugees will be Germany, France and Spain, followed by Poland, the Netherlands, Romania, Belgium and Sweden.
The idea of the need for quotas provoked a mixed reaction and a stormy condemnation on the part of Hungary and other states of Central Europe.
The new refugee resettlement system will take into account the economic performance of each country, the population, unemployment and the number of refugees that the country has already agreed to accept.
