US Special Representative for Ukraine: “This is not a frozen conflict, but a hot war”

US Special Representative Kurt Volker, having been in the zone of the antiterrorist operation (ATO) in eastern Ukraine, said that the situation in the region was at the stage of a hot war, not a frozen conflict.

During the visit, Volker met with the military, representatives of the military-civil administration in the region, as well as with the affected residents of Donbass, the press center of the ATO headquarters reported on his page on the social network Facebook.

“I came here personally to get acquainted with the details of these events. I can say that this is a terrible tragedy, because we know that Ukraine is a prosperous state. Our main task is to restore the integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. As I understand it, this is not a frozen conflict, but a hot war. And the price is dangerously high - human lives,” Volker said.

According to him, the United States understands that the situation in Donbass is not an internal conflict, but Russian aggression in Ukraine, the channel reports.112 Ukraine«.

Answering the question of whether there is an understanding in the United States that the situation in the Donbass is not an internal conflict, but an open aggression of Russia, Volker said: “Yes, we understand that. We see what is happening, we understand how this conflict began, we understand how it is being managed now.”

Together with him, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States of America to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, State Department Officer Lane Ball, military attache at the US Embassy in Ukraine, Colonel Paul Schmitt arrived in the area of ​​the ATO.

According to Kurt Volcker, after a visit to Donbass, he plans to hold a series of meetings with representatives of European governments in order to consolidate the position of the United States and its allies regarding the situation in eastern Ukraine.
