How much time is spent on the road to work in different states
Americans associate urban life with comfort. But when it comes to moving from one point to another, everything is completely the opposite. According to the census, working people in the most urbanized states in the United States spend more time traveling to work than people in most of the country's agricultural regions. In some cases, they spend twice the time on the road.
New Yorkers who like to call their city fussy, the longest they get to their workplace, writes Time. On average, every morning a resident of this city spends 33 minutes on the road, and almost every fifth person spends more than an hour. Working residents of Maryland spend 32 minutes on the road, New Jersey - 31 minutes, and residents of Washington, DC are not far behind - 30 minutes. For comparison: a total of 17 minutes takes away the road from home to work with the average resident of North and South Dakota.
A curious detail: a longer travel time is associated with places where public transport systems have been operating for a long time. Even if you take the subway or train, and not by private car or taxi, the problem remains. In other words, even though thousands of people use trains and buses every day, this does not help to relieve heavy traffic in large cities.
If we talk about the whole country, on average, an American spends minutes on the way to 26 work. Eight out of ten go there behind the wheel of their cars, and 9% of US residents spend an hour or more on the road.
