Shocking treefall: in New York fell near 150 trees and 300 branches. A PHOTO

The first snowstorm this season brought down over 100 trees in Manhattan, injured a police officer and an ambulance worker, crumpled cars and blocked the streets, paralyzing traffic on Thursday.

On Thursday afternoon, the snowfall began, and by the evening in New York, about 150 fallen trees were recorded, according to the Department of City Parks. Reported hundreds of broken branches and more 300 fallen branches.

On East 35th Street and 2nd Avenue, an emergency services police officer worked to remove a fallen tree when another large branch fell on his head. He was taken to a NYU hospital with minor injuries.

NYPD and FDNY respond to emergency falls of trees and branches. New Yorkers can call 311 to report a fallen tree. If the fall caused an emergency - in 911.

Despite the fact that the parks remain open to the public, city officials remind people of the danger of walking under the trees during bad weather.
