Saakashvili intends to return to power in Georgia

Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, who is in Ukraine, announced his intention to return with his colleagues to the country and win the parliamentary elections a year later.

According to him, “what is happening in Georgia today is a catastrophe.” “The current authorities have brought the country into poverty,” said the former president. He explained the failures of the current authorities by their orientation towards Russia, but the future of Georgia, Saakashvili is sure, largely depends on what happens in Ukraine.

17 February it became known that the prosecutor's office of Georgia requested Ukraine to the extradition of Saakashvili.

13 February, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko appointed Mikhail Saakashvili as his freelance advisor. It is assumed that in the new position he will be in charge of the international council, whose main task will be to provide recommendations on reforming Ukrainian legislation.

In Georgia, Saakashvili is wanted for several criminal cases, including embezzlement of the state budget and abuse of power.

Mikheil Saakashvili is the chairman of the former ruling United National Movement party, which has its own faction in the Georgian parliament. Parliamentary elections are to be held in the fall of 2016.
