Two weeks ago, 64-year-old Hannes Frank from France discovered a piece of a real estate company shield. Diane turtonwashed on the beach in Bordeaux, France.

A piece broke off from the plate and the colors faded, but the phone number and the name of the real estate company were distinguishable. “I looked at her and found her unusual,” said Frank.

The man decided to take the shield home, found the company's contacts and wrote an email.

"Hello! Just wanted to let you know that I found part of one of your signs washed up on the beach near Bordeaux, France. There are photos if you want. Not in the best shape after this journey,” he wrote.

The marketing director read the letter and at first thought it was a joke. After studying the data, it turned out that the shield was placed on the waterfront in Briel, New Jersey, and it was washed away during Hurricane Sandy. She also noted that the property itself did not suffer, and it was successfully sold.

Oceanographer Curtis Ebbesmeier told the publication New York Times that this sign could swim across the Atlantic three times.

“The cycle of the large stream of water that flows from New Jersey to Northern Europe all the way to Spain and back to New Jersey takes an average of 3,3 years,” he said.

According to Ebbesmeyer, there is also a sign with political agitation, which has traveled from Newfoundland Island in Canada to England in 2007.

According to him, such items swim about 11 km per day.

The powerful tropical cyclone Sandy formed at the end of October 2012 of the year and affected Jamaica, Cuba, the Bahamas, Haiti, the coast of Florida and, subsequently, the northeastern United States and Eastern Canada. The most severe damage was caused to the northeastern states of the United States, in particular the states of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.

Reaching New York and New Jersey, he took 117 lives and left $ 62 billion in financial damage.
