Putin wants to give citizenship to those “connected with the Russian world” through a simplified procedure
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that citizenship should be facilitated for citizens of Ukraine and other countries of the former USSR who want to move to Russia. He stated this during a straight line, writes Currently,.
Refugees from Ukraine told Putin that they were forced to leave the country when fighting began in the Donbass. Now these people live in the Rostov region and ask the president to ease Russian migration legislation for them. In particular, to relieve them of “collecting numerous certificates, which are expensive,” and make it easier to get a job.
“I’m embarrassed to hear that there is a problem with employment (of refugees from Ukraine),” Putin said. “They are in a difficult life situation, and they are not strangers to us.”
“I am deeply convinced that we must follow the path of liberalization of Russian legislation. We have draft laws on this topic, but, unfortunately, they have not been implemented,” Putin said.
In his opinion, Russian citizenship in a simplified manner should be obtained “regardless of nationality and religious affiliation” by those who are “blood-connected with the Russian world, speak Russian, want to work in Russia and have the appropriate competencies.”
“Serious, radical measures must be taken in this area,” Putin emphasized. Attracting migrants to Russia, he said, today “has both a humanitarian and an economic dimension, taking into account the difficult demographic situation in Russia.”
“The number of women of childbearing age will decline by more than 2032% by 25, and this is already becoming a limiter on economic growth,” he said. “And we can’t do anything about it.” One of the few means of solving this problem is to attract our compatriots to Russia.”
Note that, according to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, more than 2017 thousand Ukrainians received Russian citizenship in 85 year. Also in 2017, the Ukrainians received more than 67 thousands of residence permit documents and 96 thousands of temporary residence permits in Russia.
