Europe sent refugees to the Baltic States. They burn women and want to escape

The other day the Estonian court put an end to the high-profile case of 20-year-old Syrian refugee Kovan Mohammed. He received ten years in prison for trying to burn his own wife, reports ERR. The woman miraculously survived, but received severe burns. This story caused a wave of indignation in the Baltic States, where the refugees sent under the EU quota, and so met without enthusiasm.

Unlike Western European countries, here migrants were immediately made to understand that they were not officially welcome. But, as it turned out "Lenta.ru report“, Hostility turned out to be mutual: at the earliest opportunity the refugees move to more prosperous European states.

You are not welcome here

Mokhhamad, his wife and daughter moved to Tallinn from the Greek refugee camp in June 2016, including 188 immigrants from Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Eritrea, who were the first to arrive in the Baltic republic according to the EU quota. In total, Estonia has pledged to accommodate 550 people.

The family of Kowan Mohhamad settled in the capital, in a rented apartment on Mayak Street. The relationship between the spouses did not go well, the Syrian often beat his wife with a wooden stick. Later, Cowan claimed that his wife gave him reasons for jealousy. Because of this, he allegedly began to think about how to teach her once and for all. The thoughts were deep: the Syrian studied hundreds of search pages on the request “how to punish his wife”, visited thematic sites, even watched a methodical film on this topic.

Choosing the best way, last March 7 Mohammed went to the store and bought a bottle of gasoline. After that, in the presence of his daughter, he beat his wife, tied her up, doused with flammable liquid and struck a lighter ... After hearing the cries of the unfortunate woman, the neighbors called the police, and the woman was saved. The victim spent five months in the hospital, and two months was in a coma, underwent six operations, but survived.

The brutal massacre caused an outrage among local residents: they demanded the return of the refugees back, without waiting for the repetition of the tragedy. However, even before the first refugees set foot on Estonian land, it was clear that they should not expect a warm meeting. Estonians believed that their taxes are more reasonable to spend on solving domestic problems. Uninvited guests were greeted not only by citizens - even local authorities expressed their protest, dissatisfied with the fact that the government decided to place migrants on their territory without coordination with the municipalities.

Now he lives in the state center "Mutsenieki", he is learning the Latvian language and is already quite capable of explaining, but this knowledge is still not enough. According to Latvian laws, you can get a job only after passing a test of knowledge of the state language. Each profession has its own language minimum, and even such positions as a janitor or a loader is no exception. The law places much more demands on people employed in the health sector, where Filman was going to work instead of receiving budget money for idleness.

Therefore, the majority of the refugees prefer to sit on the allowance and desperately envy their fellow tribesmen, who are lucky to be distributed in the countries of Western Europe: the refugees there are paid much more maintenance.

Selective integration

Latvia promised Brussels two and a half years ago to host a 531 refugee. To date, the country managed to visit two thirds of this amount. Just to be, because most have already left the country. The symbolic cross on the idea of ​​European hospitality was the closure of the Riga reception center for asylum seekers, created a year and a half before. The main task of this center was to provide social assistance to refugees, to solve their housing problems and integration issues, but he clearly did not cope with it.

Last summer, the deputy of the Moscow government, Vilnis Kirsis, demanded that the mayor of Riga, Nil Ushakov, liquidate this institution, since several tens of thousands of euros from the capital’s budget are spent on its maintenance and staff salaries, but there are no tangible results from the center.

“There is such a tendency that after receiving refugee status and issuing identity cards, the displaced persons leave Latvia,” admits the head of the Latvian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Richard Kozlovskis. The ministry confirms that almost all the refugees left Latvia in search of a better life, there are only a few people left in the country. The State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Dmitry Trofimov explained that the state cannot forbid refugees to leave, but there were two cases in which Latvia received requests from EU member states to accept people back.

According to the director of the Public Integration Foundation, Ayi Bauer, people have no motivation to stay in Latvia: it’s difficult to work, you need to know the language. Last fall, the Latvian Ministry of Internal Affairs submitted a report to the government, which, inter alia, stated that the refugees stationed in camps in the south of Europe refuse to go to Latvia. They prefer to endure domestic insecurity in the hope of getting to Germany.

Certain groups of Latvian citizens are only happy about this situation. Members of the national radical organization Tēvijas sargi (“Guardians of the Fatherland”) last autumn made a “study walk” to the Mutsenie village near Riga, where the temporary refugee accommodation center is located. The stated goal of the walk is to demonstrate to the inhabitants of the center who is the boss. Later, the radicals posted pictures in social networks in which they in black jackets pose at the walls of the center building. “Walk at Mucenieki. Our message was well appreciated - both those around us and those who were in the building itself, including the staff, with whom we had a little talk about our actions, ”the Guardians of the Fatherland boasted.

However, in Latvia there is an example of successful integration. One from the Middle East not only perfectly fit into the local community, but also makes a political career. Hosam Abu Meri is a member of the Seimas, head of the parliamentary faction of the influential Unity Party. Recently, his name has been widely heard in connection with statements in support of the final expulsion of the Russian language from schools for national minorities. “Finally, we will end the consequences of the occupation. We want education to be only in Latvian, we want all Latvian people to live under one flag, ”says Abu Meri.

Social worker of the Kaunas municipality Egle Rushinskayte complains that Lithuanians do not agree to give their homes to Muslims even for a good price and generally prefer to stay away from representatives of an unfamiliar culture. There were other problems: many refugees cannot even learn the basics of the state language, but some Syrians and Iraqis speak Russian quite well, which becomes an additional irritating factor.

Against this background, the flight from the center in the Rukle 35 migrants has become quite natural. They secretly left the country in two rented minibuses and headed towards Germany. The fugitives were stopped to check at the Lithuanian-Polish border, but soon they missed because the documents were in order, including Schengen visas allowing them to travel throughout the EU. Commenting on this incident, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Eustace Pankauskas, stated that no one would seek and pursue the escaped.
