After the separation at the border, many illegal immigrants have already been reunited with their children. However, due to several months of waiting, some kids did not recognize their mothers, having met them with tears and tearing away, writes The New York Times.

“He didn't recognize me. My joy at the meeting temporarily turned to sadness,” said 31-year-old Mirce Alba Lopez about her 3-year-old son Ederson.

35-year-old Milka Pablo faced the same situation - her 3-year-old daughter Darlie, when they met, broke out of her arms and cried.

The girl called Miss, the social worker who looked after her at the children's detention center.

These parent-child encounters come as President Donald Trump's administration announced plans to release undocumented immigrants from detention centers and prisons using tracking bracelets—essentially a return to catch-and-release policies. which Trump tried to stop.

Faced with court decisions restricting the detention of illegal immigrants, federal officials said they could not detain all previously detained migrants. The courts ruled that illegal children under the age of 5 should be released no later than 20 days after Trump signed to end the separation policy. It was signed on 20 June, so it was necessary to reunite the families before July 10.

The Trump administration also said that they had stopped the separation policy regarding illegal immigrants entering the country with children under 5 years. After their detention, such families are put on an electronic bracelet and are allowed to travel to the United States in anticipation of the consideration of their cases in court.

Also, officials are trying to reunite previously separated parents and children of illegal immigrants younger than 5 years. According to the court, all 102 children of this age, separated from their parents earlier, should be reunited with them until July 10, but by this time only about a third of families were able to reunite.

Reunions were chaotic. Parents were warned that the time of the meeting may change, as federal officials are still conducting checks on migrants.

In Phoenix, reunions were a lot of confusion. Many children during their time in the detention center began calling each other sisters and brothers, although they had different parents. Therefore, after reuniting with their parents, they cried and asked to also take away their sister or brother, who was being taken away by other immigrants. Some kids began to call social workers moms. Parents also complained that some of the children who had been trained to the pot had forgotten everything they had mastered, and again they could not do without diapers.

The Department of Justice stated that the policy of prosecuting all adult illegal immigrants is still in operation, but they simply will not be kept in prisons until the court.

Currently, electronic bracelets are being used to control released illegal immigrants, but ICE is considering other options to ensure that immigrants come to court sessions on their cases. Currently there are about 80 000 migrants with tracking devices in the US, including those who were released after being caught before the introduction of the “zero tolerance” policy in April of the 2018 year.
