After a vacation in Florida, a woman died from carnivorous bacteria

50-year-old Carol Martin from Indianapolis (Indiana) died after a vacation in St. Petersburg (Florida) in February of the year 2018, where she annually came to watch the races.

Gradually, the area of ​​infection grew and became more painful, and the woman decided to seek medical help. The antibiotics and warm compresses that were offered to her could not stop the spread of the infection. After that, the woman was sent for inpatient treatment to a local hospital.

After the operation, doctors told Richard Martin that his wife had somehow contracted necrotizing fasciitis, or as it is more commonly known, flesh-eating bacteria.

After the surgery, Carol Martin spent 16 days in the intensive care unit. She died at home a little more than two months after the incident.

Officially, the cause of death has not yet been established, doctors conduct an examination of the tissues of the deceased, testing can take up to three months. But the family of the woman is sure that it was precisely carnivorous bacteria that led to death.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), necrotizing fasciitis is a serious bacterial infection of the skin that quickly spreads and kills the soft tissues of the body and can lead to death in a very short period of time.

This disease, starting from the year 2010, affects every year from 600 to 1200 people in the United States. Infection can be treated with antibiotics and surgery, but in this case, timely diagnosis is essential.

Symptoms of necrotic fasciitis:

• According to the CDC, symptoms can appear within a few hours after infection.
• The first signs can be pain in the muscles.
• The skin around the area of ​​infection may be warm, red or purple with swelling that spreads rapidly.
• Some patients notice ulcers, blisters or black spots on the infected area of ​​the skin.
• Later, fever, chills, fatigue and vomiting may occur.

The CDC warns you that you should see a doctor immediately if you have these symptoms.
