On February 4, 2020 at 21:00 pm EST, President Donald Trump will deliver his annual State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress.

State of the Union is the annual address of the American president to Congress. Article II, Section 3 of the US Constitution states: “The President periodically provides Congress with information on the situation in the country and recommends that it consider such measures as it considers necessary and appropriate.” In his address, the US President sets out his assessment of what is happening in the state and talks about upcoming initiatives.

Back in December 2019, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent to the White House official invitation US President Donald Trump for speaking in Congress despite ongoing impeachment process.

Pelosi’s letter said: “In the spirit of respect for our Constitution, I invite you to make a statement on the situation in the country at a joint session of both houses of Congress on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 in the House of Representatives.” The president accepted the speaker’s invitation.

The message from the American President is many months of work. Economists, foreign policy and social sphere experts are participating in the preparation of the appeal. They all work on parts of the document, which is then finalized by members of the presidential administration and “polished” by speechwriters. The final version of the appeal is given to the president himself for reading, who can make changes. Donald Trump does not approve of large texts, but he makes changes often.
