The United States decided to step up the fight against the Islamists in Syria
The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State extremist group is intensifying its campaign in Syria, US President Barack Obama said.
“Our target is the leaders of the Islamic State and their infrastructure in Syria, the heartland of ISIS, from where their funds and propaganda are distributed throughout the world,” Obama said at the Pentagon.
According to the president, the large losses suffered by the Islamists indicate that the group will be defeated.
At the same time, Obama noted that the victory over the IS will be won only if the United States receives effective support from its partners in the fight against the Islamists.
Last Saturday, Islamic State jihadists posted a video online that allegedly showed militants gunning down 25 people in the ruins of the ancient city of Palmyra.
