According to the “greens,” the extraction of energy resources in this area is fraught with disasters similar to what happened in the Gulf of Mexico, when the ecology of the entire region suffered due to an oil spill.

Abigail Ross Harper, Director of the Office for the Management of Ocean Energy Resources at the US Department of the Interior, in turn, said that the country's authorities intend to take over the security of operations in the Chukchi Sea.

According to experts, in the area of ​​Alaska can lie up to 15 billion barrels of oil. Shell, which has already spent about $ 6 billion on exploration in the Arctic, plans to produce up to 400 thousands of barrels per day.
