In Alaska, a man drowned in a glacial lake and accidentally filmed his death on video

A man from Alaska accidentally filmed his own drowning in a glacial lake. A GoPro camera was mounted on his helmet, reports AP.

The authorities who found the camera have yet to find his body, officials said July 18.

Alaska authorities said teams will continue to search Mendenhall Lake for the body of 43-year-old Paul Rodriguez Jr. of Juneau.

The search party found a helmet with a camera attached to it. The camera belonged to Rodriguez. It contains video from July 11, when his kayak capsized and he went under water.

"The footage shows the kayak capsized due to strong currents coming from the glacier," Troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain said.
DeSpain said the helmet was found by the lake. He said he was handed over to the authorities on 17 July.

Juneau police said on July 17 that Rodriguez is believed to have gone missing on July 11 somewhere in the vicinity of a conservation area on the Mendenhall Glacier. On July 16, police received a report from US Forest Service officials that Rodriguez's car had been parked at the recreation area since July 11.

Rodriguez's son, Jayden Rodriguez, said his father had a kind heart and enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, kayaking and snowboarding. According to his son, Rodriguez was also a gifted photographer.

He said that Rodriguez's life changed for the better when he found God, and Rodriguez often told him that life is short.

According to police, Rodriguez's roommate said he last saw him on July 10. Friends said that on a July 11 social media post, Rodriguez posted a photo of a kayak on a beach that appeared to be near the Nugget Falls along the lake.

On July 11, a kayak was found floating unattended in the lake, which police said resembled the kayak in Rodriguez's photo. While the authorities were collecting details what happened, the search began.
