Lobbyist who bought tickets for Trump's inauguration to a Ukrainian secretly collaborates with prosecutors

American political scientist Samuel Patten, who lobbied for the interests of the Opposition Bloc in the United States and helped a Ukrainian businessman illegally purchase four tickets to the inauguration of President Donald Trump, apparently entered into an agreement with US special counsel Robert Mueller and the Department of Justice, writes CNN.

On Monday, January 31, when the court was supposed to set a date for sentencing, prosecutors did not disclose the details of the court hearing. They also did not disclose the reason for the confidentiality of the case.

The closed court session looks rather strange against the background of earlier prosecution statements about the crimes committed by Patten. Particularly related to the fact that he acquired Trump's inauguration tickets for his Ukrainian client, and his lobbying work for Ukrainians, which was performed by the former head of Trump's presidential campaign, Paul Manafort.

Patten has previously admitted that he illegally acquired tickets for Trump's inauguration for a Ukrainian oligarch and a Russian closely associated with Paul Manafort. Patten was a corporate lobbyist in the business of former Russian assistant Konstantin Kilimnik Manafort, whom Mueller’s team had interrogated over recent months and accused of having links with a Russian intelligence group that allegedly committed a hacker attack on Democrats in 2016.

Patten agreed to cooperate with the investigation of Muller and the Ministry of Justice before Manafort pleaded guilty of a criminal offense in September. He was the main goal of Muller for almost a whole year.

Recall that the jury recognized Manafort is guilty of tax and bank fraud related to his income from lobbying in Ukraine.

Patten was supposed to participate in the planned second trial against Manafort.

As a rule, in such cases, when the suspect admits his guilt, and the prosecutors no longer need to cooperate with him, they transfer the case to the sentencing stage. But the court has not yet set a date for sentencing Patten, and it is not known when she will be appointed.

The US Attorney's Office (District of Columbia) filed a lawsuit against Patten in August, after the Senate Intelligence Committee forwarded it to the Department of Justice. Patten admitted that he lied to the Senate committee that did not help to buy tickets for inauguration. He also admitted that he did not register as a foreign lobbyist for the Ukrainian opposition party, which includes a prominent oligarch.

It is noteworthy that for the first time the Ministry of Justice publicly accused a person of assisting a foreigner to secretly send money ($ 50 000) to organizing a political event related to Trump.
