Israeli lawyers sued Facebook for $ 1 billion
Israeli human rights group Shurat Hadin filed a lawsuit against the social network Facebook in the amount of 1 billion dollars on behalf of the relatives of victims of Palestinian attacks.
According to the lawsuit filed in US court, the social network's management "knowingly provided material support and resources to Hamas, facilitating the terrorist group's ability to recruit new members, plan and carry out attacks, and instill fear in its enemies."
Human rights activists say that the appeals of Palestinians in social networks caused a wave of attacks in October last year, which killed 35 Israelis.
Plaintiffs allege that Facebook is violating US anti-terrorism legislation, which prohibits US companies from providing any material support and services to groups recognized as terrorist.
All victims of the attacks listed in the lawsuit had US citizenship. Hamas representatives called the lawsuit on the Israeli side an attempt to blackmail Facebook.
According to group spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri, some Israeli politicians and military personnel "expressed pride in the killing of Palestinians" on Facebook and other social networks.
Facebook representatives do not comment on the lawsuit filed with the company.
