Success story: Maxim Shkinder - Ukrainian designer McLaren

Maxim Shkinder was born in the small town of Energodar (Ukraine), but thanks to his talent, work and luck he became the designer of McLaren.

Maxim was born in Energodar, where in 90-s the younger generation did not have a variety in the choice of what to become. Since childhood, he liked to draw most of all, he also attracted cartoons, namely the aspects that made them - colors and character animation.

After school, he wanted to study graphic design, but there was a huge competition for this specialty. Maxim's family could not master the paid-for-training, so he entered the Kiev Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts named after Boychuk for industrial design, hoping in time to move to a more prestigious area.

In the second year he had a task to design a power tool, and after he completed it, the teacher noticed forms more characteristic of cars, and advised him to portray the car. This period in his life was marked by the beginning of interest in transport design.

During his studies in Kiev, Maxim was already thinking about the future - he applied several times to the Turin School of Design, but for various reasons he was denied. Then the guy was invited to work in the studio of Artemy Lebedev in Moscow. It was a great opportunity to express themselves in real conditions.

After that, the Italians came to him and offered to participate in a competition on a given topic. While doing his diploma in a hurry, Maxim did not have time for other projects, so he just sent them some of his thesis.

According to her, they estimated the potential of the guy and invited him to study for free.

In Italy, he was the only student in the group who studied for free. Not having gained the necessary points, he risked losing the scholarship, so he had to keep the declared level and be a kind of guide for the rest. There was neither time nor money left for travel - parents were working for wear in Ukraine to help the guy.

At the same time, they made him an offer from Mercedes and Skoda. He chose the second one because they called for work specifically, and the Germans invited them for an internship with possible employment. And then the invitation came to McLaren.

Beauty in auto design is a rather controversial thing. Each of the professionals has their own taste and preferences; they were educated in good specialized schools. Therefore, after coming to work, Maxim was explained what is beautiful and what is not, using the example of recognized authors.

“No matter how strange it may sound, the best relaxation for me is drawing. When I worked at Skoda and worked on sedans, I painted supercars on weekends. I just started working on supercars - in my free time I started drawing something else and taking my mind off cars. Nevertheless, I draw all the time,” said Maxim.
