“Truck of Good”: free distribution of products to Russian-speaking Jews of Israel

Even the winter storm did not stop the implementation in Israel of a new project of the World Forum of Russian-speaking Jewry - free distribution of vegetables, fruits and other food products to repatriates in need.

A car with an inscription on board the “Truck of Goodness” (“Masait Shel Chesed”) is running for the fifth month along the roads of Israel. It delivers the products of local farmers in the points for free distribution to poor immigrants from the former USSR.

The idea of ​​this project was born to the President of the World Forum of Russian-speaking Jewry, Alexander Levin, during the military operation “Indestructible Rock” in the summer of 2014, when the scale of the difficulties that fell upon the inhabitants of the cities of South Israel - and especially Russian-speaking repatriates - became clear.

The project has become truly international: it is being implemented by the World Forum with the participation of the Moscow Jewish community of Rabbi Yitzhak Kogan (synagogue on Bronnaya Street) and the chief rabbi of Ukraine Moshe-Reuven Asman (Kiev Central Synagogue named after Brodsky).

Yoel Azman, the son of a Kyiv rabbi, drives the truck and delivers food. “We help thousands of people. We deliver vegetables, fruits, dairy products, candies, cookies, sometimes even clothes and beds,” says Yoel Asman. According to him, “farmers in the South and near Eilat invite us directly to the fields and greenhouses, our volunteers collect the harvest, and we then deliver vegetables and fruits for free distribution.”

Some milk producers give them their products, and, for example, the company "Spring" gives drinks and juices.

The distribution of products takes place at the Russian-speaking centers of the Chabad movement - an agreement on this was reached after a meeting in Jerusalem, at which the President of the World Forum of Russian-speaking Jewry, Alexander Levin, gathered more than 50 Russian-speaking rabbis from dozens of Israeli cities.

Free delivery of products takes place in Ashkelon, Ashdod, Sderot, Beersheba, Haifa and in Jerusalem. In the 2015 year, it is planned to start the delivery also to Safed.

From September 2014 to January 2015, the “good truck” delivered more than 1000 tons of vegetables, fruits and other products to free repatriates for free.

“Helping the poor, making life easier for our pensioners and large families is the primary responsibility of any charity. Therefore, we will continue this project further,” emphasized Alexander Levin, president of the World Forum of Russian-Speaking Jewry.
