Georgia asks Azerbaijan to arrest Saakashvili
Georgia sent a formal request to Azerbaijan about the detention of Mikhail Saakashvili and his extradition to Georgia. This was reported by the deputy head of the press center of the Main Prosecutor's Office of Georgia Natia Sukhiashvili.
“We know that the ex-president of Georgia is now in Baku. We would like to note that the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has already sent an official request to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan to detain Mikheil Saakashvili and extradite him to Georgia,” Sukhiashvili said.
Saakashvili arrived in Baku to participate in the forum of ex-presidents and heads of government. In an interview, Saakashvili noted that the Georgian authorities created obstacles to his visit to Azerbaijan. In turn, one of the leaders of the parliamentary majority - the Georgian Dream party - Gogi Topadze said that Tbilisi cannot prohibit official Baku from hosting ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.
