Google created a camera that sees through obstacles
Developers from Google and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created an algorithm that allows a smartphone camera to “see” through small obstacles.
Such interferences may be glass with raindrops or glare, a fence from a chain-link mesh, a fence and so on.
The algorithm processes the image as if there are no obstacles in front of the lens, writes CNews.
To remove, for example, glare or reflections on glass from a frame, the user needs to slightly move the camera of the mobile device from side to side, showing the landscape or object from different angles to the smartphone.
After examining the situation, the program determines what is considered an obstacle in the frame, and what is considered a background. Then the application cuts the obstacle and shows the user the processed frames from the video, on which it does not exist.
According to the creators, the algorithm can work on modern mobile devices without any additional devices. However, they did not name the dates for the appearance of the commercial version of the application.
