“Join Us Or We'll Kill You”: How Kids Get Involved in the MS-13 Gang

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave a speech about the violence of street gangs in New York, near the place where four young men were brutally murdered and disfigured. On their bodies there are multiple traces of blades - the sign of the gang MS-13.

According to the attorney general, the gang enjoys US legislative abilities: children under 18 under the age of parents have the right to remain in the country with relatives or friends. Since the autumn of 2013, 165 has thousands of minors without parents settled in the USA in this way. Many of them settled on Long Island.

“The bad guys know how the system works and they exploit it,” Sessions said. A recent interview with 13 suspected MS-13 gang members revealed that seven of them were in the country as unaccompanied minors.

“There is no doubt that MS-13 recruits these children [who are in the US without their parents]. MS-13 provides children with a social environment that they are deprived of,” said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini. “Of course they use coercion. They simply say: if you don’t join us, we will kill you,” Sini adds.

Public sentiment is so tense that some parents are afraid to send their children to school. "Kids are losing their childhood," said Jennifer Suarez, whose 15-year-old niece was beaten to death on the street last year.

US President Donald Trump has pledged to crack down on the MS-13 gang after the four-time murder in Long Island, New York. Then four teenagers died after they were severely beaten by gang members. In his Twitter feed, Trump promises to quickly remove the gang from the streets of the United States.

Recall that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will send 2,5 a dozen state police officers to Long Island to fight the criminal gang MS-13.

Andrew Cuomo called MS-13 an international criminal organization "as shameless as it is brutal." He also announced the creation of a high-intensity anti-gang unit. The unit will have covert surveillance equipment and even aircraft equipment at its disposal.

“We will do whatever it takes to dismantle this criminal organization,” Andrew Cuomo told reporters during a news conference in Brentwood.

The 25 military, aimed at fighting MS-13, will work alongside local police and federal agents. MS-13 is accused of killing 10 people in Suffolk County.

The gang was founded by immigrants from Central America in Los Angeles in the 1980s. According to the FBI, its strength is up to 10 thousand people in the United States and more than 30 thousand worldwide.
