Jewish non-Jewish wedding: Hollywood stars are promoting a new “fashion squeak”

Famous film actress Cameron Diaz arranged a Jewish wedding with Benji Madden, guitarist for punk rock band Good Charlotte, at her home in Beverly Hills. In this case, both newlyweds do not have any relation to the Jews.

Diaz's father was Cuban and her mother has English and German ancestry. Madden also has no evidence of Jewish ancestry, except that his middle name is Levi. Perhaps their “Jewish wedding” is just a fashion statement, especially after some celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna announced their conversion to Judaism.

The White House hosts a Passover Seder, and rabbis deliver greetings at the conventions of both major political parties. Now Americans of Anglo-Saxon origin and Protestant faith want to be Jews."

Gabe Friedman of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency predicts: "Having a Jewish wedding ceremony - even if the couple is non-Jewish - could become a new trend in Hollywood."
