'This trip changed my life': Jessica Chastain shared her impressions of her visit to Ukraine

Hollywood actress Jessica Chastain spoke about her trip to Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia, during which she met with the country's President Volodymyr Zelensky. Writes about it Hollywood Reporter.

In a Twitter thread, the actress detailed her long journey and posted a 50-second video featuring Ukrainian children and those she met there. Chastain explained why she is publishing the video only now - she "took several weeks to comprehend everything that she saw during her trip to Kyiv."

“We landed in Poland. We drove for 4 hours by car, then another 11 by train,” she wrote on Twitter. I was very nervous and the long drive gave me time to calm down. Now I will begin to share with you what I have seen.”

Chastain cited startling statistics related to the war.

“So, the number of people who left Ukraine for the EU countries is now 5,1 million people, another 7,7 million are internally displaced persons,” she said while driving through Kyiv. - The population of Ukraine before the war was 44 million people. War crimes resulted in the deaths of 6 civilians, including 710 children; 359 civilians were wounded, including 8741 children.”

On some frames we see the buildings of the capital of Ukraine, but the main part of the video is a visit to the children's hospital.

“One of the main impressions of the trip that changed my life was a visit to the OKHMATDET children's hospital. I had the opportunity to meet its wonderful patients and the general director of this National Specialized Children's Hospital, Vladimir Zhovnir. The kids amazed me with their hope and strength,” she noted.

“Many were forced to leave their homes and spend months in the hospital. There is a huge humanitarian crisis in Ukraine right now. We cannot forget the innocent victims of senseless acts of violence,” she stressed. "I'm grateful to have met these sweet little kids with big bold hearts."

News of Chastain's visit to Ukraine first broke in early August, when Volodymyr Zelensky posted a photo with the Hollywood celebrity.

“American actress Jessica Chastain is in Ukraine today. For us, such visits of famous people are extremely valuable,” the President wrote. “Thanks to this, the world will hear, learn and understand the truth about what is happening in our country even more.”
