The daughter of the former prime minister of Russia received the citizenship of Ukraine
Maria Gaidar, appointed to the post of deputy governor of the Odessa region, received Ukrainian citizenship. The corresponding decree was signed by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
Together with Gaidar, the former editor-in-chief of Forbes Ukraine Vladimir Fedorin received Ukrainian citizenship. Passports of new citizens of Ukraine Poroshenko handed in personally.
Poroshenko thanked Gaidar, Fedorin and "all Russians who find the courage to express disagreement with the actions of the ruling regime in Russia for their active, courageous civil position."
The fact that Maria Gaidar will take the post of vice-governor of the Odessa region and will oversee the social sphere, 17 July announced the head of the regional administration, Mikhail Saakashvili.
Gaidar said she would take the citizenship of Ukraine, necessary to take the post of vice-governor, but she does not intend to give up her Russian citizenship.
Mikhail Saakashvili, who served as President of Georgia from 2004 to 2013, was appointed to the post of Chairman (Governor) of the Odessa Regional State Administration at the end of May 2015. Saakashvili also received Ukrainian citizenship.
