Therefore, at noon on January 20, the duties of the Secretary of State will be temporarily performed by his deputy for political affairs - Tom Shannon, a representative of the Obama administration.

In addition, in the event of a catastrophic event in the United States, the so-called duty successor is chosen - as a rule, this is one of the ministers. He is not present at the inauguration and is guarded in a remote place, his name is not disclosed.

This duty successor will also be not from the Trump team - the Senate has not yet approved the nominated candidates for ministerial posts. They will be someone from the Obama administration, reports CNN.

“There are two lines of succession at the inauguration: one is for the Barack Obama administration, which is still in power, and the other will not appear until Donald Trump is inaugurated and the Senate confirms his appointment,” he said in a comment to the TV channel. political scientist John Fortier.
