Christie's will sell the last painting of da Vinci for $ 100 million
15 november auction house Christie's will put up for sale a painting by Leonardo da Vinci "The Savior of the World", which since the XVIII century was considered lost.
But in 2007, restorer Dianne Doyen Modestini, who worked with the image of Christ, as she then thought of da Vinci’s pupil Bernardino Luini, removed the first coat of paint from the canvas and saw the work of the master under him, writes Forbes.
The authenticity of the painting was established in 2011, after which it was put on display in the London National Gallery.
"The Savior of the World" - the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci, which is in the hands of a private collector, and in the auction house Christie's the canvas was dubbed the “Holy Grail among the Works of the Old Masters”.
They ask for the Grail - $ 100 million, but it is possible that the final cost of the last da Vinci will exceed the estimated amount of the sale.
By the way, in 1958, an unknown collector bought a canvas with the Savior at auction for just £ 45 ($ 59) (in terms of 2017 year - £ 1000 ($ 1321)).
In the world at the moment, less than 20 paintings are known, the authorship of which is undoubtedly attributed to Leonardo da Vinci.
