California resident has kept people in slavery for years

A resident of California for two years kept two people in slavery, and then hid one of the victims from agents in order to prevent the investigation.

58-year-old Firdosh Sheikh from Elk Grove, California, was charged with two points of forced labor and two points of giving false testimony to federal agents. It is reported by Assistant Attorney General John Gore from the Department of Civil Rights of the Ministry of Justice.

According to the indictment, from October 2008 to June 2013, the defendant concealed two victims in his property and other places, forcing them to work and provide services for her financial gain.

In July, 2013, the defendant lied to federal agents and tried to hide one of the victims from agents in order to prevent the investigation.

An indictment is only an accusation and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

In case of confirmation of the offense, the accused faces the maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of 20 years, a fine of $ 250 000 and mandatory restitution to the victims.
