Big snowfalls coming from Denver to New York

A developing winter storm in the US is spreading snow along a 1500-mile (2 km) line from Denver to New York. Bad weather will hit the United States on Friday and will last at least until Sunday evening.

According to the meteorological service, more than 20 million people live on the path of an impending storm and the upcoming snowfall, writes USA Today.

Major cities on the road to storm include Kansas City, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Washington and Baltimore. St. Louis is projected to face the greatest amount of snow as a result of the storm, the thickness of the snow cover in the city will be 8 inches (20 cm). Snow will start there on Friday and may lead to transport problems.

AccuWeather forecasts the winter storm will be quite long-lasting for many areas, with severe weather lasting more than 12 hours in most areas and up to 48 hours in some cases.

The snow will be strong enough to cause difficulties on the roads, as well as failures in air travel. This is the first significant blizzard this winter in some areas of the United States, so it is recommended that you take special care when traveling, as some motorists may not have sufficient driving skills in winter weather.

The storm will also bring ice or ice to some parts of the United States; it will fall from southern Kansas to northern Arkansas, as well as in southern Kentucky and in northern Tennessee.

By Saturday the storm will shift to the Appalachians and the Middle Atlantic. The meteorological service predicts that on Saturday and Sunday in the Middle Atlantic 2-4 inches (cm 5-10 cm) of snow will fall.

In the south, the storm will bring precipitation in the form of cold rain.
