The White House is preparing for a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, writes "Voice of America".

According to a senior American official, the US ambassador to Russia, John Huntsman, came to Washington to assist in organizing the meeting.

“Ambassador Huntsman has been working on this project for a long time - several months - organizing a meeting between Putin and Trump,” said a US administration official.

It is reported that the purpose of the summit will be the resolution of long-standing differences between the two countries, in particular the conflicts in Syria, Ukraine and a number of other issues.

The place and time of the meeting is still unknown. If the summit takes place, it will be the third meeting of the leaders of the United States and Russia.

Last July, they met on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Germany, and in November - during the APEC summit in Vietnam.

The head of the White House has repeatedly stated the desire to improve relations with Russia.

Presidents of the United States and Russia talked by phone 20 March on the initiative of the American side. According to the press secretary of the head of the Russian state, Dmitry Peskov, Putin and Trump agreed that many problems in the world require the joint efforts of Moscow and Washington. Putin’s congratulations on the election victory and the very fact of the conversation drew criticism from the American media and politicians.
