Kazakhs rally held in San Francisco
Natives of Kazakhstan held a protest in the main square of San Francisco - Union Square. In this way, the Kazakhs decided to support their compatriots who live in Kazakhstan.
The protesters reported that they were unhappy with the policies of the current President Nursultan Nazarbayev. About 30 people took part in the action. People came to the rally with posters: “Freedom for activists and journalists”, “Wake up, Kazakh, our strength is in unity”, “Old man, leave”.
The protesters expressed support for all political prisoners in Kazakhstan and demanded their immediate release and cessation of political repression. Speakers chanted “Freedom of speech in Kazakhstan”, “Freedom to peaceful assembly” “No to arrests for posts in social networks”.
“This is not our path, we must follow the path of European human rights standards. And if someone or something interferes with us on this path, we must overcome this obstacle,” said one of the rally participants, Gulnar Yesirgepova.
The participants of the action spoke and against land reformwhich is planned to be held in Kazakhstan. Recall that in a number of cities in Kazakhstan protests took place. Residents of the country oppose the adoption of amendments to the Land Code, which provide for the expansion of opportunities for foreigners to lease agricultural land.
