In Russia, honored the memory of the sailors of the submarine "Kursk"

В On Wednesday, the memory of 118 seafarers who died 15 years ago on the nuclear submarine Kursk was honored in Russia at the bases of the navy. According to Radio Liberty, in the Vidyaevo garrison in the Murmansk region, from where the Kursk submarine went on the last voyage, a rally of garrison residents and military men took place near the memorial complex “To the Submariners who died in the ocean”.

On the ships of the Baltic Fleet of Russia, St. Andrew’s flags were lowered to commemorate the tragedy of the Kursk submarine. The personnel of the Russian fleet honored the memory of the dead sailors with a minute of silence. In the city of Baltiysk in St. George's Cathedral a memorial service for the dead sailors was served.

The mourning rally in Kursk was attended by representatives of the 18 city school, in the class of submarine cadets which this year were children born in the year of the submarine's death.

In St. Petersburg, events dedicated to the death of "Kursk" began at noon with a memorial service at the Nikolo-Epiphany Naval Cathedral, then a traditional mourning rally was held at the Seraphim Memorial Cemetery, where the graves of 32 crew members are located, including the commander of the Kursk crew, the first rank captain Gennady Lyachin. It also hosted the solemn laying of flowers, giving military honors, passing a company of honor guard.

Memorial events took place in the St. Petersburg Central Naval Museum and its branches. Thus, an exhibition opens in the “Submarine D-2“ Narodovolets ”branch, where you can see not only the Kursk APK model, samples of the boat hull, equipment parts and instruments, but also the Kursk officer jacket, lieutenant commander Dmitry Kolesnikov and his suicide note. One of the exhibits is a picture with the text of the hymn-prayer of British submariners, which they sing as they leave for the sea. It was embroidered by the wives of English sailors in memory of the dead crew of the Kursk.

Nuclear submarine "Kursk" sank 12 August 2000, during exercises in the Barents Sea. All 118 people aboard the submarine died. According to the official version, the cause of the death of the submarine was the explosion of a torpedo in preparation for a conventional torpedo attack.
