In New York in March recorded a record low crime rate

In March, New York recorded a record low crime rate in the entire history of the city, with the result that the total number of crimes in the first quarter is also a record low, reports AM New York.

Decrease in crimes is recorded in all seven main categories, including murder, rape, robbery and burglary.

Thus, according to the latest data from New York Police, the number of murders in March 2019 of the year decreased by 27,3%, rape by 3,8%, robberies by 6,7%, burglary by 17,5%. The overall level of success has been reduced by 6,2% compared to last year.

In the first quarter, the overall crime rate decreased by 7,3% compared to the same period of 2018, but the number of murders increased by 9%, and rape by 38%.

Neighborhoods in northern Brooklyn remain dangerous areas for urban crime. A sharp increase in shootings and murders in the northern part of the borough prompted the NYPD to identify four of the most dangerous areas - 34th Street in upper Manhattan, 43rd Street in the Bronx, 79th Street in Brooklyn and 113th Street in Queens.

“46% of all shootings that occurred in the city in March occurred in the Brooklyn area, 39% of which occurred in northern Brooklyn. In northern Brooklyn, the number of arrests of armed people increased by 86%,” said Terence Monahan, chief of the city police department.

According to him, often accused of shooting, which is threatened with criminal prosecution, go out on bail and again get into trouble. For example, one of the defendants in the shootout was later detained for stealing a car.

The mayor of New York City, Bill de Blazio, supported the police’s proposal that the judges take into account the potential danger of a repeat offense on the part of the accused when deciding whether to grant bail.
