“Due to the detection of the plague, the Mongolian authorities announced a quarantine in the Bayan-Ulgii province in western Mongolia,” the diplomatic mission said. — It will last from April 30 to May 6. During this time, 17 tourists from Russia who are staying there contacted us.”

“They have no health problems, we hope that on May 6 the quarantine will be lifted and they will return home,” added the embassy representative. “We are in contact with them and provide all the necessary assistance.”

The diplomatic mission noted that earlier in the province of Bayan-Ulgiy two local residents died due to plague infection after they ate the meat of a wild animal. No other infected. Such incidents occur every few years, since the site of infection is located in this area. The Embassy of the Russian Federation recommends that Russians refrain from traveling to this part of Mongolia, since they cannot leave the province until the quarantine is completed.

The causative agent of the disease is the plague bacillus, which is usually found on small animals, rodents, or on parasites living on them. The incubation period of the disease lasts from three to seven days.
