In Latvia, chose a new President
Against Vejonis were the 42 parliamentarians, one ballot was declared invalid, and one deputy did not participate in the vote.
As reported, in the previous rounds of the presidential elections, first the candidate from the opposition Union of Regions of Latvia, Martins Bondars, dropped out of the race, then the candidate from the opposition “Consent”, Sergei Dolgopolov, and after four votes, only one candidate remained in the race for the post of President of Latvia - Vējonis.
Vejonis will be the fifth president of Latvia since the restoration of the country's independence and the ninth since the founding of the state.
Earlier, Vejonis said that his priorities as president will be national unity, patriotism and social justice.
Vejonis served for many years as Minister of the Environment, and then was appointed Minister of Defense. He has been repeatedly elected to the Sejm and is co-chairman of the Latvian Green Party.
In 1989, Vejonis received a degree in biology at the University of Latvia, in 1994, a degree in hydrology at the University of Tampere, and in 1995, a Master of Biology degree from the University of Latvia.
