In California, criminals will be released on bail for 12 hours
Suspects awaiting trial in California will now be released on bail, according to a bill signed by California Governor Jerry Brown on Tuesday.
Before releasing the suspect on bail, he will be assessed in the risk assessment system, although the details of the bill, which will come into force in October 2019, are not yet fully known.
Suspects accused of serious violent crimes will not be released before the trial, but most of the suspects arrested for non-violent offenses will be released within 12 hours after registration, in accordance with the law.
The bill gives officials 24 hours to determine whether other suspects should be released pending trial. This time can be increased by 12 hours, if necessary.
“Today, California is reorganizing its bail system so that rich and poor are treated fairly,” Brown said in a statement.
Brown’s signature gives the State Judicial Council, the California court policymaker, broad authority to review pretrial detention policies.
Senate Bill 10, the formal title of the bill, was approved by the legislature earlier this month.
Earlier, California Court agreed release the accused on bail in cryptocurrency.
