The White House invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to Washington.

This was announced on Friday by US National Security Adviser to the President John Bolton, who is on a visit to Tbilisi.

Trump and Putin met several times on the margins of international events, but held only one bilateral meeting, which was held in the capital of Finland in July.

“We invited President Putin to Washington,” Bolton said in the Georgian capital.

It is not clear whether the Russian leader accepted this invitation.

Earlier, Bolton said in an exclusive interview with the Armenian service of Radio Liberty / Radio Free Europe that, in his opinion, meetings between Russian and American officials are very useful.

“I am convinced that Russia's approach to foreign policy is determined by its national interests,” said Bolton, who came to the Caucasus from Moscow. - And I think that we are doing well with Russia, when both sides expressly signify their national interests. Sometimes we simply cannot reach an agreement, but sometimes, after discussing some of these issues, we can come to an agreement. ”

Bolton also noted that Putin is invited to visit Washington after the new year.

After the summit in Helsinki, Trump's opponents and even some of his GOP comrades criticized him for being too malleable with Putin.

The topic of Putin’s visit to the United States is particularly acute in connection with the findings of American intelligence on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election of the year in order to help Trump win. Moscow denies these charges.

Trump and Putin are also planning to meet on September 11 in Paris, on the margins of events to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Bolton, speaking at a press conference in Georgia, noted that the Paris meeting will be short. He did not explain why.
