Died the oldest inhabitant of the Earth: she was 118 years old

The world's oldest person, French nun Lucile Randon, has died at the age of 118. TheGuardian.

Randon, known as André's sister, was born in the south of France on February 11, 1904, ten years before the First World War.

She died in her sleep at her nursing home in Toulon, press secretary David Tavella said on January 17.

“This is a great sadness, but ... it was her desire to join her beloved brother. For her, this is a liberation,” said a spokesperson for the Sainte-Catherine-Labouré nursing home.

The sister was long honored as the oldest European before the death of Japan's Kane Tanaka at 119 last year made her the longest-lived person on earth.

Randon was born the year New York City's first subway opened and the Tour de France was only held once.

She worked as a governess and tutor before entering a convent in 1944 at the age of 40. She has lived in nursing homes since 1979 and in a home in Toulon since 2009.

She survived the 19 Covid-2021 outbreak at her nursing home, which killed 10 other residents.

Tavella reported that the nun showed no fear of the virus.

“She asked me not about her health, but about her daily routine. For example, she wanted to know if the timing of meals and sleep would change. She was not afraid of the disease, in fact, she was more worried about other residents of the house, ”Tavella said.

Asked if she was afraid of contracting Covid, the nun replied to French television BFM: “No, I was not afraid because I was not afraid to die… I am happy to be here, but I would like to be somewhere else – join my older brother, grandfather and grandmother."

Secrets of longevity

According to Lucille Randon, it was her work that was the main secret of her longevity. She worked all her life. And the main goal for her was to serve people, compassion and help. The nun noted: “People say that work kills, but my work supported me, I continued to work until I was 108 years old. People should help each other and love each other, not hate."

“Actually, I have no idea what the secret is. Only God can answer this question,” she said. “I had many misfortunes in my life, and during the war of 1914-1918, when I was a child, I suffered like everyone else.” But she sincerely believed that heaven had sent her the years that her deceased twin sister did not live to live, reports “New Hearth«.

In an interview with reporters, Lucille admitted that she never limited herself to delicious food and her favorite drinks. Randon stated that she has one “sin”: she loves to eat chocolate and drink wine. And she did not deny herself this pleasure until the last days, despite the venerable years. According to Randon, she drank a glass of wine every day.

An employee at the nursing home where Sister André lived said: “Her glass of wine keeps her going, and that may be the secret to her longevity. But I do not encourage people to drink a glass of wine every day!”
