Died adviser to Putin from the 'black list' of the United States

Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Veniamin Yakovlev, who was on the so-called “US black list”, or the list of Vladimir Putin’s inner circle, died on Tuesday at the age of 87 after a long illness. This was reported in the press release of the Russian Lawyers Association, writes TASS.

“On July 24, after a long illness, at the 87th year of his life, the co-chairman of the Russian Lawyers Association, adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Law, professor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honored Lawyer of the RSFSR, full holder of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, Veniamin Yakovlev, died. <…> The Russian Lawyers’ Association expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Veniamin Fedorovich,” the association reported.

Alexander Khinshtein, adviser to the director of the Rosgvardia, also wrote about his death on Twitter. He noted that, despite his mature age, Yakovlev continued to work until the last day and kept working.

Earlier, a source surrounded by Yakovlev reported that the farewell to him would be held at the Central Clinical Hospital on Thursday, July 26, at 11: 00 Moscow time.

Veniamin Fedorovich Yakovlev was born on February 12, 1932 in the city of Petukhovo, Ural Region of the RSFSR (now Kurgan Region) into a family of workers. After graduating from the Sverdlovsk Law Institute in 1953 (now the Ural State Law University), he made a brilliant legal career. From July 1989 to December 1990, he was one of the last ministers of justice of the USSR (in the government of Nikolai Ryzhkov).

From December 1990 to November 1991 he was Chairman of the Supreme Arbitration Court of the USSR. He created the system of arbitration courts in Russia - in 1992 he became the chairman of the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation, which he headed for 13 years.

After leaving the post of Chairman of the Supreme Arbitration Court, he was appointed to the position of Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation. Yakovlev was one of the initiators of the creation of the Russian Lawyers Association. He was awarded the highest legal prize “Themis-99”, as well as the “Justice” prize in 2002 for promoting legal reform in the Russian Federation.

According to Columnist, Yakovlev was included in the “Kremlin list” published by the US Treasury Department in January 2018. Then the US Treasury Department published the so-called Kremlin report, which clearly identified the inner circle of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The circle consisted of 210 names. The document included 114 major officials of the Russian Federation and heads of state-owned Russian companies, as well as 96 oligarchs. The report also contains a secret part.

In particular, the list includes the names of representatives of the leadership of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation, including Anton Vaino, Alexei Gromov, Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov and the Russian leader’s assistant Vladislav Surkov. The largest political figure is Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov said that the inclusion of almost the entire Russian leadership in the “Kremlin report” of the United States indicates an actual breakdown in relations between Moscow and Washington.

First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Franz Klintsevich said that the “Kremlin report” is a new attempt to “scare the Russian Federation.”

The Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, Anatoly Aksakov, refused to fly to the National Prayer Breakfast with the participation of American President Donald Trump due to the publication of the “Kremlin report” by the US Treasury.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov admitted that the “Kremlin report” could damage the image of the entrepreneurs and politicians included in it.

Russian military-political expert Yuri Fedorov, who lives in Prague, noted that the most interesting aspect of the US “Kremlin report” regarding oligarchs from the Russian President’s inner circle is that it introduces restrictions on cooperation between the Russian military-industrial complex and foreign companies. He also called the document a real blow to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin personally.

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov called Washington’s sanctions against Moscow “senseless” and noted that the Russian Federation cannot be intimidated by such actions. In turn, Kremlin pool journalist Dmitry Smirnov expressed bewilderment that the “Kremlin list” did not include the chairman of the board of Rusnano, Anatoly Chubais, and the head of the board of the Center for Strategic Research Foundation, former Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin.

Reference. The “Kremlin report” is not a sanctions list, but is only advisory in nature. These materials are expected to become the basis for Washington’s decisions on new sanctions against both individuals and companies in the energy, defense and financial sectors, as well as Russian intelligence services.
