US imposed sanctions against Ukrainians for meddling in presidential elections

The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on several Ukrainians who participated in the Russian campaign for meddling in the US presidential election. The edition told in more detail Interfax.

“The Russian disinformation campaign targeting American citizens is a threat to our democracy. The United States will continue to aggressively defend the integrity of our election systems and election process,” said Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

According to the document, we are talking about a "network of foreign influence", associated with Ukrainian MP Andriy Derkach, who was included in the sanctions lists of the Department of Finance in September 2020 for trying to influence the 2020 US elections.

The department claims that persons associated with Derkach, like himself, have used American media and social networks since at least 2019 to spread unfounded accusations that current and former US officials were involved in corruption, money laundering and "illegal political influence "in Ukraine.

The list includes the resources of Era-Media TOV, Only News, Nabuleaks and Skeptic TOV (Begemot Media), as well as Alexander Dubinsky, Dmitry Kovalchuk, Konstantin Kulik, Alexander Onishchenko, Anton Simonenko, Andrey Telizhenko and Petr Zhuravel writes RIA News".

The sanctions measures provide for the freezing of all assets of these persons under US jurisdiction. American citizens are prohibited from doing business with these people, and other structures that are 50% or more in the possession of these people are also blocked by the American authorities.

Andriy Derkach previously released two parts of the recordings of alleged telephone conversations between the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the elected American leader Joe Biden, which, according to him, testify to international corruption and treason of the ex-head of Ukraine.

Petro Poroshenko said that the records were fabricated.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov commented on the information that the Ukrainian parliamentarian is a “Russian agent”. He advised "not to read such nonsense."
