The US is still considering the supply of arms to Ukraine
The US administration continues to consider the possibility of providing weapons to Ukraine, but has not yet made a final decision on this issue. This was announced at a congressional hearing by Pentagon chief Ashton Carter.
Answering a question from the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Republican John McCain, he noted that the possibility of supplying American weapons to the Ukrainian army is still being studied. “No decision has been made on this matter,” the US Secretary of Defense emphasized. When McCain asked Carter to clarify his personal position, he replied that he was inclined to provide weapons to Kyiv.
The United States intends to continue the preparation of the National Guard of Ukraine, considering it the main type of military aid to the country, also noted Ashton Carter.
As previously reported by the Pentagon, the preparation of units of the National Guard of Ukraine began at the Yavoriv training ground in the spring of this year. The US military instructors working there are part of the 173 Airborne Brigade of the US Army, which is based in Vicenza (Italy). The commander of US ground forces in Europe, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, noted that at the first stage it was planned to train three battalions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
