The founder of the group “Russian Right Sector” was imprisoned for almost three years

A court in St. Petersburg sentenced the creator of the Russian Right Sector community on the social network VKontakte to two years and seven months in a maximum security colony.

Maksim Kalinichenko was found guilty of distributing records of extremist content. This was stated by the press service of the city prosecutor's office.

“The court found that Kalinichenko in February-March 2014 posted in the groups “Russian March 2014” and “Russian Right Sector” of the social network “VKontakte” texts and images that contained calls for extremist activities, violence, as well as political, ideological , racial, national and religious hatred,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

Kalinichenko was detained in February 2015.

Earlier, at the end of February 2013, the Kuibyshevsky court of St. Petersburg sentenced Kalinichenko to a suspended sentence of 2,5 years on charges that on December 10, 2012, as the organizer and leader of the youth movement “Russian Jogging,” he called on participants in an unauthorized march to use violence regarding police officers.

The Ukrainian nationalist organization Right Sector, which gained fame during the events on the Maidan in Kyiv in the winter of 2014, has been declared extremist in Russia, and its activities in Russia are prohibited.
