North Korea launches missile overflying Japan: US reaction

President Donald Trump called North Korea a "threat to the entire world" after its latest provocation and said "all options are possible" - an apparent reference to US military power, writes Daily News.

He recalled his tough position after North Korea launched a rocket that flew over the northern island of Japan, startling its citizens, and caused a sharp drop in financial markets.

North Korea "showed disregard for its neighbors, for all UN members, and for minimum standards of acceptable international behavior," Trump said in a statement published by the White House press office. “Threats and destabilizing actions only increase the isolation of the North Korean regime in the region and among all countries of the world. All options are possible. "

According to "Voice of AmericaTrump spoke by phone with Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe after the launch, noting that North Korea poses a “serious and growing direct threat” to both countries.

"President Trump and Prime Minister Abe are committed to increasing pressure on the DPRK and to make every effort to convince the world community to do the same," the White House said.

The rocket flew high over Japanese territory approximately 10 minutes after launch, split into three parts and fell into the Pacific Ocean, east of Hokkaido Island, according to the Japanese government.

“This is an unprecedented, serious and dangerous threat to our people,” Japanese government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said.

Suga said that the launch of the rocket is a gross violation of the UN Security Council resolution, promising to work out a joint response to the actions of North Korea with the United States and South Korea.

A Pentagon spokesman also confirmed that the North Korean rocket flew over Japanese territory and did not pose a threat to the United States, noting that the United States continues to collect information on the launch of the rocket.

The launch put an end to the monthly break in the missile tests, which the US authorities interpreted as a manifestation of "restraint." President Trump announced last week that the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un “is beginning to respect us.”

North Korea remained adamant.

“The United States must know that it will not be able to intimidate the DPRK with economic sanctions, military threats and blackmail, or force the DPRK to turn away from its chosen path,” says the Nodong Sinmun newspaper, the official mouthpiece of the Workers' Party of Korea.
