Sam's Club unexpectedly closed its stores

Employees and customers learned about the closure of the store on the same day that the White House thanked Walmart (which owns Sam's club) behind intention to boost salaries and give workers bonuses as a result of the new tax reform, which implies a reduction in the corporate tax rate.

All day, customers wondered about social media about why their local stores Sam's club are closing. Some demanded reimbursement for membership in the club, the cost of which ranged from $ 45 to $ 100 per year.

Sam's club answered a few questions with a brief statement.

“After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we have decided to close a series of stores and better align our location with our strategy,” wrote Sam's club in one answer. “Store closures are never easy and we are committed to working with members and partners during this time.”

The company also reported through Twitterthat pharmacies in Sam's club will remain open "at least two weeks."

In the press release Walmart stated that it would offer "support and resources for workers who suffered, including bonus and 60 paid days, as well as retirement for those who are entitled to it."

Federal law requires large employers to provide employees with a notice 60 days before the closure of the company or mass layoffs.

During the day, local news agencies across the country reported that the closure occurred without notice. Some reported that confused employees came to work, where they learned that they no longer have a job.

Hitt, spokesman Walmart, refused to provide a list of addresses of 63 stores that will be closed.

Thirty-nine stores named CNNMoney, recorded reports that the store was closed on Thursday, but will be open on Friday. When a representative was asked about this message, Hitt confirmed that the stores were closed for one day so that management could inform employees about the decision to close the store, but the “majority” would open again on Friday to begin liquidation sales. Nine stores said they were closed on Thursday, and two more said they closed on January 26.
