New York terrorist from Uzbekistan wanted to save money and return home

The mother of a native of Uzbekistan who killed 8 and injured an 12 man during a terrorist attack in New York, Mukaddas Saipova, said during interrogation that her son, when he won the green card, was a diligent boy. According to The Wall Street Journal, they were constantly in touch and he wanted to save up money and go home, buy a house.

The suspect’s sister said that the family often communicated with Saipov even after he left for America, writes “Present Tense". He missed home and wanted to return to Uzbekistan:

“He wasn’t eager to go to America at all. A friend invited him to participate in the green card lottery. And he won, but his friend didn’t. The brother was in shock; for a long time he did not believe that he had won. When I won, I spent a long time looking for information about the move. I thought for a long time whether to leave work in Tashkent or not,” the woman said.

In Tashkent, Saipov graduated from a financial institution and worked as an accountant at a hotel.

“He was planning to move back, he was very homesick. Sometimes during telephone conversations he cried and said that he was bored. But every time he had some circumstances due to which he could not return. First one child, then the second. When his mother last visited him in the USA, he told her then that he planned to return,” Umida Saipova emphasized.

The woman said that her brother showed no signs of religiosity. And even the beard that he wore was allegedly not a sign of an Islamic extremist:

“If we had known that he had such views, we would definitely have brought him back to Uzbekistan,” she emphasized. – He began to wear a beard after he got married in America. We were shocked; we didn’t expect to see him with a beard. I asked him why he grew a beard and he said it was for security reasons and to make him look older. Because, he says, he was once beaten up by robbers at a gas station, thinking he was young, and he wanted to look older. In addition, he worked as a truck driver and was on the road for 10 days, so it was not always convenient for him to shave.”

Umida Saipova spoke with her brother on October 30.

“I spoke to him, he was in a good mood, as usual. He said he bought a cake exactly like the one I made for him. He liked cakes,” she said.

“We want to go to America and see him, find out from him what happened. We don't know who poisoned his mind. Maybe there is some kind of organized group. He was a very trusting and simple person, always ready to help. What he did, he could not do alone. It’s impossible to imagine,” the woman said.

Recall, on Tuesday, October 31, Saifullo Saipov in a rented truck committed hitting pedestrians in New York, and also ran into a school bus carrying disabled children. Then, with the words “Allah Akbar!”, He jumped out of the cabin with traumatic and paintball guns in his hands. The police wounded him and detained.
