7 New Details Investigating New York Attack

The federal prosecutor's office in New York accused the citizen of Uzbekistan Saifullo Saipov of killing eight people and providing material support to a terrorist organization. He writes about it CNN.

The indictment filed Wednesday in the Southern District Court for the State of New York contains facts gathered as evidence of these charges.

The attack began to be planned about two months ago

Saipov told investigators that two months before the attack, he decided to use the truck “to inflict maximum damage on the civilian population,” the indictment says.

Saipov told investigators that he watched an IG video on his mobile phone, which inspired him to attack the truck, the prosecution says. Investigators checked two mobile phones and found around 90 videos and 3800 photos, many of which were propaganda related to the IG.

In particular, Saipov said that he was going to continue to watch the video of IG leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, where he asked, “what Muslims in the United States and elsewhere are doing to respond to the murder of Muslims in Iraq.”

In addition, a request was found on the phone to search for a truck rental in New Jersey on October 4 and the request “Halloween in NYC"for October 15.

He rented a truck before the attack to practice

Saipov wanted to kill as many people as possible.

Saipov said he chose Halloween because he thought there would be more people for the holiday. He hoped to get to Brooklyn Bridge.

He wanted to put the flag of the IG in the truck and in the hospital

The accused wanted to put the flag of the IG in the truck, but then changed his mind so as not to attract much attention. During interrogation in hospital Bellevue Saipov asked to hang the flag of IG in his room.

The charge alleges that when an officer wounded Saipov, he threw a paintball gun, an air pistol and a black bag in which they found three knives and a purse with a driver's license issued in the state of Florida.

The prosecution says that law enforcement officers found two mobile phones and a pistol with a silencer on the floor in a truck near the driver’s seat. A knife and a note in Arabic were also found with an oath of allegiance to the “Islamic State”, however, no evidence of the accused’s contacts with the IG yet.
