'It's time to put pressure' on Putin: the US Congress called on Trump to act

The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, was called upon in the US Congress to “start putting pressure” on Russian President Vladimir Putin in order to stop military aggression in Eastern Ukraine. This was stated by member of the US House of Representatives Gwen Moore, reports “Voice of America«.

“Russia’s war in Ukraine often seems distant. The lack of attention to the conflict is not surprising given our President's special commitment to Russian President Putin... It's time for our President to stop quietly disavowing American policy toward Putin and start pressing the Russian leader to take concrete measures to end the war in Ukraine, including those that provided for by the Minsk agreements - a path agreed upon by both parties,” emphasized Gwen Moore.

She added that the consequences of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine are closer than they seem, and recalled that the world recently honored the American Joseph Stone, who died in Ukraine, who worked in the Donbass as part of the OSCE mission.

“One year ago this week, Milwaukee-born Joseph Stone was killed by a mine while serving on a conflict monitoring mission. Stone was a medical professional on an international team of observers who are the world's "eyes and ears" in a war that has claimed more than 10 lives and displaced millions, Moore said.

The congresswoman emphasized that the country needs a president who “has the strength to separate himself from personal interests and stand up for human rights.” “We need a president who is willing to muster the diplomatic force to persuade Putin to stop threatening international observers in Ukraine, who, as Joseph Stone tragically demonstrated a year ago, risk their lives to serve international peace and security,” the parliament spokeswoman said.
