Why are so many Americans dissatisfied with tax cuts

The administration of US President Donald Trump gave Americans a Christmas gift - a tax cut.

It would seem that many should be happy about this, but at the same time a significant portion of US residents are dissatisfied with the tax reform. Edition The New York Post tried to understand the reasons for this discontent.

Interview Quinnipiac showed that only 25% of voters approved a tax reduction plan. Other polls conducted ABC News, Washington Post, CNN, Morning Consult and YouGov, showed the result only slightly higher. This level of support is significantly lower than voter approval of previous tax cuts.

The first tax cut that occurred during Ronald Reagan’s presidency in 1981, received an approval rating of 51%. A tax cut in 2001 by President George W. Bush received 49% approval. Tax cuts by Bush Jr. in 2010 supported 54% of Americans.

Even a tax increase in 1993 by President Bill Clinton received an 34% approval rating.

However, the average Trump tax cut approval rating, based on the results of all surveys, was only 32%.

One of the reasons why Americans are against tax cuts may be that the US already has a debt of 20 trillions of dollars, and a tax cut will cause the country's national debt to grow by 1,5 trillion dollars over the next 10 years. Therefore, it was possible to find a better way to help the economy.

Another explanation for the low support for tax cuts may be that Americans believed in the idea that tax cuts were much better for the rich than for the middle class and the poor. This argument was the main argument of the Democrats against tax reform, so people during the polls could simply be guided by what they heard on television or read in the press.

Now, when a number of corporations give out bonuses in the amount of 1000 dollars to employees due to the funds saved on taxes, the opinion of many Americans about tax reform may change.

Another reason could be the banal cynicism of Americans, who simply believe that the authorities in Washington can not do anything right.

Adult Americans do not believe in Santa Claus, and also that American politicians can solve the problems of US residents.
